Creek Urbanism: Oslo’s Central
Hovinbekken
Kelly Shannon and Giambattista
Zaccariotto
Urbanisation and larger precipitation are
increasing the flood risk and putting stress
on the water systems of Oslo: the rivers, the
runoff system as well as the water quality of
the Oslo Fjord. The course collaboratively
investigated how the water capacity of the
Oslo landscape could be increased through
strategic interventions at all scales, and had
a particular focus on Hovinbekken.
Emerging Urban Territories
Alf Haukeland
The population of Greater Oslo will grow
by half a million over the next 30 years. The
course investigated sustainable ways of im-
plementing the growth, through nodal den-
sification, transformation of existing urban
structures and by pushing back the border
of the building zone. Project work focused
on new park systems, infrastructures and
new types of urban fabric.
Hyper (Landscape) Urbanism.
Ca Mau, Vietnam
Kelly Shannon, Vibeke Jensen and
Erik Stenman
The studio addressed the intersecting is-
sues of climate change, accelerated urban
growth and urban mutation in Ca Mau by
integrating approaches from architecture,
urbanism and landscape architecture. The
studio included one month of fieldwork, in
collaboration with the Southern Institute
for Urban Planning (Ho Chi Minh City), the
Ho Chi Min University of Architecture, the
University of Leuven (Belgium) and the
local authorities.
