Steinar Killi and Professor Jan Michl

            Design for Diversity

          focuses on creating

products and services for the largest num-

ber of people to instill a sensitivity for con-

text and empathic user insight. Students

are trained in a user-centered and inclusive

design processes and given an introduction

          to product semantics, Interaction Design

and 3D modeling. In addition the students

are taught mechanics and an introduction

          to design theory 1.

          Methods and Technologies

          in the Design Process

          Associate Professor Steinar Killi and

          Professor Jan Michl

The first part of the semester focuses on

          design methodologies and product anal-

          ysis through practical assignments. An

          existing product’s design and structure

are explored, as well as the potential for

product optimisation. The second part of

the semester focuses on technologies in the

          design process. Students use well-known

          manufacturing methods such as injection

molding, extrusion, blow molding, and rap-

id manufacturing. In addition the students

are taught production techonology and an

          introduction to design theory 2.

          Identity in Product and

          Interaction Design

          Associate Professor Nina Bjørnstad

This course in brand building emphasises

          communication through physical and visual

product identity. The course focuses on

theoretical and practical issues related to

branding and the experience of the prod-

ucts. Knowledge of the basic principles and

instruments of branding and visual identity

          are explored analytically, strategically and

          practically.

          Professional Knowledge

          for Designers

          Associate Professor Geir Øxseth,

          Professor Per Farstad, Assisting

          Professor Hans Gerhard Meier and

          visiting tutor Adrian Paulsen

          This course addresses professional practice

and its framework, role and relationship to

the client and society. The course will in-

clude an introduction to teaching programs

in Product Design, Interaction Design, as

well as an introduction to the Application

System and Service Design. The course is

divided into two main tasks: a complete

design project and portfolio. Students are

required to have passed or to complete the

          exam philosophicum.
