THE COLLECTIVE
Foundation first year | 4-week workshop
As their first assignment at AHO, the students were to construct
an inhabitable structure in scale 1:1 out of cardboard. The stu-
dents were divided into pairs, each receiving an identical plot
of 2,5 x 2,6 m in the croquis-hall of AHO. On their plot, each
group was to construct a room providing temporary sleeping
and living areas for two persons. The construction had to define
the relationship between the individual, the cohabitant and the
collective. Important topics for the design were construction,
light/darkness, exposure/screening, access, circulation and pri-
vate/public. The goal of the assignment was to gain experience
in conceptualizing and constructing spaces in scale 1:1 with real
structural challenges through social and architectonic collabo-
ration among 61 persons.
