The project is located in Manhattan’s East Village, between
the East River, Con Edison power plant, and the residential
community Stuyvesant Town. Different programs – offices,
housing, retail, cinema, gym, kindergarten, recreational facili-
ties and a seafood market with the terminal for the East River
ferry – comprise the new complex block. The Ferry Terminal
and the building complex are separated by the East River
Drive, so a connection is made by a ramp, stretching from the
tip of the terminal and cutting through the building mass, cre-
ating new public spaces for the inhabitants. The roof surfaces
are tilted either ten or 45 degrees and lined with 15000 m2 of
solar panels to harvest solar energy. There are 17 000 m2 solar
panels in total, including the tilted facade elements.
