The Aker River Night Walk (Elvelangs)
20 September 2012
Students used newspapers to fire ceramics for the many thousand people who walked along
the Aker River for the annual Elvelangs event. During several days of preparation, the stu-
dents rolled newspapers into rings, which they then placed on top of each other to make a
pyramid shaped oven. On the evening of the river walk, they used the paper ovens to fire var-
ious types of ceramics including vases, bowls and animals, which lit up the dark autumn sky.
Dagbladet’s Feature Article Competition (Dagbladets Kronikkonkurranse)
September 2012
Jørn Knutsen and Einar Martinussen’s article
Å formgi en Digital Framtid
(Giving Form to
a Digital Future) won the prize for best feature article on design and it’s role in society and
public debate, in a competition organized by Norsk Form and Dagbladet. The article discuss-
es how digital technologies now permeate and influence culture, society and everyday life on
several levels, and how this must be understood as a result of design processes. They argue
that design is central in shaping the materials of technology into products and services that
people use in their everyday lives, and that design should be more prominent in discussions
and in development of strategies that relate to technology use in society.
