Programme
The faculty at the Institute of Form, Theory and History (FTH)
teach at all academic levels, spanning from first year studio via
master studios and elective courses, to the PhD programme.
In addition, FTH offers a post-professional Master of Archi-
tectural Heritage. Courses at FTH draw on ongoing research
projects, and several of the courses pertain to research projects
conducted within OCCAS, the Oslo Centre for Critical Archi-
tectural Studies. OCCAS studies the cultural significance of the
built world, its historical preconditions and its contemporary
status. Focusing on Nordic architectural culture, OCCAS looks
at the built environment as a site for cultural negotiation and
contestation. With material ranging from exhibitions and texts,
to architectural processes, buildings and landscapes OCCAS
insists on the contemporary relevance of historical and theo-
retical research, its critical potentials, and its urgent function
in understanding the built environments of the present and the
future. (
).
The teaching portfolio of FTH focuses on architectural
history and historiography, design history, drawing, critical
conservation and transformation of historical structures,
contemporary architecture, as well as museums, models and
architectural exhibitions. Master diplomas and doctoral dis-
sertations advised by FTH faculty are embedded in these fields.
In the autumn 2011 FTH launched a newmaster studio as part
of the OCCAS project
19th Century Architectural Imaginations
