Living and Working in the Barents: Exploring Infrastructure
investigated
specialist research themes of governance, infrastructure, resources, cli-
mate and economy in the barents area. Each theme was represented by
architects, planners, investors and protagonists working in the region.
Professionals researching different aspects of the region and proposing
a particular direction also participated.
The Studio R+PA for Research and Production of Architecture from The
Oslo School of Architecture and Design and Laba Studio from Ecole Poly-
technique Federale de Lausanne with Professor Harry gugger, proposed
topics that emerged from the first semester`s mapping and research at
both universities. The seminar defined and formulated architectural
principles, programs, locations and sustainable material premises for ar-
chitectural development. These principles informed the students’ design
work during the spring studio 2012. Individual presentations explored
five infrastructures integral to the barents region: networks, energy/ex-
traction, ecological, socio-cultural and settlement.
