red dot Award
May 2012
The Institute of Design (IDE) was ranked eighth
among educational institutions in the red dot design/
institution award for design concept. A gathering of
all red dot award achievements over the last five years
resulted in a list of 15 top educational institutions that
included AHO. According to red dot: “The ranking
recognises IDE at AHO as one of the top universities
in the Americas and Europe to continuously and pro-
gressively produce cutting edge and forward thinking
design.”
Dar es Salaam
Exhibition and Conference
September 2011
This conference reviewed the studio at the City Hall
of Ilala in the central district of Dar es Salaam, Tan-
zania. The Mayor of Dar es Salaam participated along
with representatives from the Dar es Salaam planning
office, ARDHI University Department of Architec-
ture and AHO Institute of Urbanism and Landscape.
The conference was part of an exhibit of proposals
from the previous studio in Kariakoo. The conference
in addition to the exhibit and interviews with Ezekiel
Moshi of ARDHI and Edward Robbins of AHO were
featured in English and Swahili language newspapers
as well as on TV and radio.

exhibited student work from
different design schools in Norway. Students from the
Institute of Design exhibited Diploma projects as well
as projects from Systems Oriented Design and Design
Management: Creative, Cross-disciplinary Collab-
oration with BI + KHiO + AHO. The exhibition was
opened by Head of Institute, Rachel Troye.
The Future of the Government Quarter:
Architecture and Values
12 March 2012
This seminar was the second arranged by OCCAS
on the government quarter after the 22 July 2011
bombing. Randall Mason, Associate Professor,
University of Pennsylvania, spoke about perspectives
of values-centred conservation as well as of recent
site of memory related to violent events. Mattias
Ekman, PhD Fellow, introduced the ongoing debate
on demolition and restoration. Architect Christian
Ebbesen discussed values assessment in the work of
the Ministry of Government Administration (FAD)
after the bombing.
