WORKING AND LIVING IN KUALA LUMPUR:
CHINATOWN KUALA LUMPUR
MiriAM SivertSen
Advisors: neven fuchs-Mikac with the assistance of Helge Lunder
With this project I wanted to address low-tech sustainability in a modern,
urban tropical context. I wanted to design a sustainable project where the
traditional Malaysian attitudes towards materiality, ventilation, detail and
construction as well as the spatial qualities of the plan inspires a solution that
functions well in modern, urban living. Here, I provide a group of Chinese
heritaged families – approximately 50% of the population in Kuala Lumpur are
of Chinese heritage – with business concepts as well as residents. The project
is about upgrading an area as well as providing inhabitants and tourists with a
green lounge in a fragmented part of the city.
