The assignment was to develop a proposal for a new body-worn, personal

sound system that stimulates aesthetic experimentation and seeks structural

uniqueness without duplicating existing products in the market.

            MaxPulse

          is

a headset with a built-in pulse meter. This simplifies the training process as

the user can measure his or her heart rate without having to use a watch and

a chest trap with a heart rate monitor. The headset is used with an application

on a smartphone that offers many smart additional functions.

          offers

a new fastening mechanism to ensure tightness with movement and allow for

ample air flow. It maintains an open sound source to improve security, allow-

ing the user to hear sounds from traffic and the surrounding context.

We were in the midst of the major assault period in autumn 2011. I asked

myself: Why don’t I still possess a rape alarm? For me the negative aspects

of a product like this were stronger than the benefits and meant I did not

purchase a rape alarm. The potential of accidental alarms is especially great

and existing solutions attached to key ring, purse, belt or other inaccessible

places make the products unattractive. Moreover, they are often produced in

          cheap, pink plastic.

The result is the design of an alarm device that is worn around the neck

and calls attention immediately if a threatening situation arises. The user

either activates or deactivates the device by using only one hand. A fuse is

switched off either in advance or at full activation, making the operation

intuitive. The device consists of good material and does not feel alien or

technical. One feels safer and freer with a personal small shield.
