WHERE’S MUMMY? OKEI TALKIE LOCATING AND COMMUNICATING SYSTEM
WENYING ZHANG
Supervisor: Geir Øxseth
A mother losing her child is unbearable, even for only dozen of minutes, and a lost
child’s panic, confusion, and the dark fantasy of the dangers around is immeasurable,
especially when a child is strictly instructed not to talk to any strangers. This would
make any unknown adult into a potential enemy.
Okei Talkie is a communicating and locating system designed for children, which
enables parents to locate their children and communicate with them through voice
messaging. The project aims to help children reunite with parents, and through
product design, offer them comfort and reassurance, and at the same time help
them learn to cope with situations if they ever get lost or get separated from those
watching them.
The idea is to create a character,
Little Fa
that children could build up an emotional
attachment to, which gives them a sense of familiarity when they get lost or separated
from supervision. The system tells the story of how
Little Fa
gets reunited with
Mama
Fa
by using
Okei Talkie
. It also tells in what situations a child should use
Okei Talkie
,
and safety rules in terms of dealing with strangers and unfamiliar environments.
