One semester
Drammen is planning to build one-family houses in all the new residential areas. The growth
we are seeing today calls for greater density. The existing potential includes: examples of early
19th century gardens, proximity to the river with an existing promenade and structures with
identity. The project includes working with Gulskogen’s existing qualities in order to create
a diverse neighbourhood with excellent living qualities. The recurring flooding is handled in
a sustainable way that lets the river flow naturally. A lush, grand river park will cover the 10-
year flood area. The terrain will be raised 1-2 meters in certain spots in order to keep dwell-
ings safe from the 500-year flood. The masterplan includes a system of semi-private orchards,
a public park and designed streetscapes with urban trees and wide, inviting walkways.
