INSTITUTE OF DESIGN
CENTRE FOR DESIGN
RESEARCH
The Centre for Design Research encompasses practice-based and inquiry-centred research. This draws on
design processes and products and supports and crosses demarcations between products and services,
industrial and interaction design. We also now support and publish research in a range of other areas of
design inquiry and practice. The centre includes the experimental, procedural and also speculative nature
of researching what does not yet exist. As part of the Institute of Design at AHO, The Centre for Design
Research aims to make a consistent and quality-led contribution to international research in diverse fields
of design through practice-based inquiry and critical, informed reflection.
The Centre for Design Research undertakes three types of projects, research projects, research network
projects and PhD projects. PhDs are seen as project holders as they are all doing theses by publication
and contribute to the centre’s international publication production. Here we provide weblinks and specific
blogs for projects, as these are a major part of our research.
